<image:title>Dr. Alyssa - Dr. Alyssa Gremban, OTD, OTR/L, CPST, RYT-500</image:title>
<image:caption>Dr. Alyssa Gremban received her Clinical Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee where her doctoral research focused on early pediatric mobility and caregiver perception of disability. Dr. Alyssa also completed her Leadership Education and Specialty Certification in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities and Related Disabilities (LEND) from Vanderbilt University so she could better serve children with a range of neurodevelopmental diagnoses. Additionally, Dr. Alyssa has been trained in the Sensory-Oral-Sequential (SOS) Approach to Feeding to assess and address pediatric feeding delays and disorders effectively. Before becoming an occupational therapist, Dr. Alyssa was also an Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) provider and has extensive experience working with children with behavioral delays, sensory processing differences, and related difficulties. As a neurodiversity-affirming therapist, Dr. Alyssa takes pride in using children’s unique strengths to support their achievement towards developmental milestones. She has been further trained in the Developmental, Individual-Differences, and Relationship-Based (DIR) approach to therapy, which is a model that highlights the power of relationships and emotional connections to fuel development. Dr. Alyssa established her first private practice in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2019 and successfully provided services for children and their families throughout Southern Nevada. Since relocating to Oregon, Dr. Alyssa’s mission is to increase the ease and accessibility of vital therapy services for children and their families throughout Central Oregon. Dr. Alyssa understands how frustrating it can be to be put on a waitlist and strives to provide on-time services for all children and their families so they can live fuller and independent lives! When Dr. Alyssa is not providing therapy, you can find her practicing yoga, reading a good book with a cup of coffee, hiking, or spending time with her family.</image:caption>

<image:title>Therapy - But what exactly is occupational therapy?</image:title>
<image:caption>Pediatric occupational therapists help all children—regardless of their injury, disability, or diagnosis—to do the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of daily activities (known as “occupations”). Play is the primary "job" or "occupation" of children throughout development. Play is how children learn and how they develop valuable life skills such as physical coordination, emotional maturity, social skills, and the self-confidence to try new experiences and explore new environments. Pediatric occupational therapists use play to help children participate fully in school, social situations, and family life so that they can live life more independently. Pediatric occupational therapists are unique in that they use a holistic perspective to focus not only on the individual child, but the aspects of the child’s environment that impact their performance and participation. Specialty areas include: Sensory processing skills • Behavioral regulation • Fine motor coordination • Handwriting skills • Gross motor coordination • Strength and balance • Social and cognitive skills • Daily living skills • Self-feeding skills • Assistive technology use • Orthoses management • Caregiver education and training • Patient advocacy.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Download our helpful resource below to see some of the common reasons children are referred for an occupational therapy evaluation. Please note that while every child may have some level of difficulty with one or more of these areas, an occupational therapy referral my be indicated if these problem areas significantly impact a child’s independence in the home, school, community, or play.</image:caption>
