Frequently Asked Questions.
What are “neurodiversity-affirming” therapists?
To answer this question, we have taken an excerpt from our partners at Choosing Therapy on How to Find a Neurodiversity Affirming Therapist:
“A neurodiversity-affirming therapist approaches therapeutic work with the understanding that autism, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), dyslexia, Tourette’s syndrome (TS), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), dyspraxia, and certain other conditions aren’t problems to be cured or solved, but individual neurotypes with unique strengths, needs, and challenges. The neurodiversity movement shifts away from the idea that brains falling outside of “typical” are “disordered.”
A neurodiversity-affirming therapist will possess a basic understanding of different types of characteristics unique to each neurotype. For example, they would have knowledge that an autistic client might have special interests or sensory needs. A therapist informed in neurodiversity would also be well-versed in areas specific to the neurodiverse community and the nuances of the experience of neurodivergent individuals.”
At Always Home Therapy, we practice under a neurodiversity-affirming model and utilize your child’s unique strengths and interests to support their progress towards their therapy goals.
Do you have a brick-and-mortar office?
Always Home Therapy was developed in order to provide therapy services for children and their families in their natural environments. This includes the child’s home, school, daycare, or community environments! We do not currently have a brick-and-mortar office and take pride in bringing therapy services directly to you.
How long will my child need therapy?
While this tends to be one of the most common questions from the families we serve, it is a difficult one to answer! Each child is unique in the frequency and duration of therapy they require. However, at Always Home Therapy, we formally reevaluate children every six months to ensure that they are making progress towards their therapy goals and to determine if continued therapy is warranted.
Do you accept insurance?
Always Home Therapy is not currently contracted with insurance (yet!). While we are working on accepting insurance carriers in the future, we only accept cash-pay families at this time.
Do you offer any financial assistance for families?
In an effort to make our therapy services more accessible to the children and families we serve, we do offer financial assistance for families who can indicate a need through our standardized sliding scale program. Contact us today if you are interested in applying for our sliding scale program!
What is a sliding scale program?
Sliding scale programs are income-driven payment models that allow us to provide care for children and families who may not be able to afford care otherwise. Your sliding scale fee for services is determined based on the completion of a standardized sliding scale application. In this application, we review your collective household income and other extenuating circumstances that may impact your ability to pay for services.
